News for Millennials: The Outline

Through one of my many (and frequently abandoned) self improvement stints, I discovered The Outline and have stuck with reading their modern take on current events and news stories. Subscribing to their email subscription list (you can do so too - here!) has upped my morning with current events and incredible graphic design (a refreshing alternative to other news outlets!)

Their "Power" section, focusing on who has it, who wants it, and what do they do when they get it?, features headlines ranging anywhere from intersectionality in media, to conglomerate corporations wronging their workers. This is a great place to start keeping yourself up to date and gain perspective on the happenings of the outside world.

We made this thing because we believe that the right story told in the right way can change someone’s life.

The "Culture" heading focuses on the way we live and communicate, and it is a great resource for lighthearted pop culture stories and recent releases in all avenues of the media and entertainment industry. I find myself perusing their "What We Loved This Week" Series - a perfect place to discover new entertainment prospects to get you through your own week.

The final of the three big headers, the "Future," focuses simply on where we’re going next. With stories on the tech world and other similarly accelerating and infiltrating industries, the content here will keep your brain moving.

If the Outline's impeccable graphic design and modern approach to written news media isn't your jam, they also offer a wide array of podcasts - from news to TV show fandoms.

The Outline World Dispatch // The Outline World Dispatch brings you stories about Power, Culture, and The Future, every Monday through Thursday, hosted by Aaron Edwards

Tomorrow // Tomorrow With Joshua Topolsky is a podcast about what's happening right now — and next — in the world of culture, technology and the internet, music, movies, politics, and more. Whether it's dissecting the news of the day or having an in-depth conversation with a creator, deep thinker, or artist, Tomorrow will be the best hour of funny, weird, and wonderful you'll get all week.

Sound Show // Sound Show is a podcast from The Outline all about the things we hear, and how we wind up hearing them. Each episode explores one topic in sound, like music, film, silence, or communication. We talk to the people who make and hear the strangest, most interesting sounds in each topic.

Out West // HBO's Westworld is full of vagaries and questions. Out West is a podcast from The Outline that tries to guess at what the answers are. Each week, your hosts Josh Topolsky, Adrianne Jeffries, and John Lagomarsino find one fan with a solid theory, and we kick the tires to see how that theory holds up.

The Red Center // The Red Center is a weekly podcast discussing the new Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale. Every week, hosts Laura June and Rose Eveleth talk about the much-hyped adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s classic American dystopia, through the lens of one specific topic per episode.
