Feeds to Follow: @bestdressed
In another round of Feeds to Follow, I’m focusing in on Ashley from her Youtube channel, bestdressed, and Instagram, @best.dressed. Her channel and internet presence has blown up these past couple months, and it’s no surprise given her sassy and utterly genuine personality, stunning videography, and unapologetically original content.
If all of this isn’t enough to entice you to follow along, she’s also recently been nominated for a Shorty in the Breakout Youtuber category.
In addition to her Instagram, a literally stunning archive of self-timer photoshoots (seriously, what? how?) throughout LA, her Youtube channel is the video mecca for all things fashion, beauty, and a spunky college lifestyle. As epitomized by one of my favorite fashion uploads of hers, featuring a how-to on constructing winter outfits, her style is this fantastic hybrid of girly and edgy. Featuring floral and plaid, textures and layering, its the perfect mix of always put-together yet realistically wearable.
Two of her most recent uploads have been serious sources of inspiration and optimism for the Youtube platform. As much as I am addicted to Youtube videos (seriously, I have been following some gurus since middle school… @me exposing almost a whopping decade of procrastination efforts!), recent years have featured a rise in clickbait and a prioritization of sponsored content and ad revenues. This has resulted in a lot of boring and uninspired content across channels that used to be my ultimate favorites. If you’re also disappointed in this yourself, Ashley is seriously changing the game, producing high quality content that both challenges the Youtube taboos and exudes her genuine self.
Her recent video centered around a trio of dates has frequently entered into my stream of thought ever since I’ve watched and rewatched and rewatched it (and even rewatched again again!). Featuring her boyfriend, a friend and herself, the video celebrates the importance of cherishing the people in your life and also making time for yourself #selfcare (a not-so-subtle parenthetical callout of @uchicago for destroying this practice for me).
Likewise, her sex-centered video is the epitome of a new direction for online content, focusing and talking about “taboo” subjects in a genuine and approachable light. Completely open and unapologetic, this video is not only educational and enjoyable but so incredibly important for spreading an open dialogue about sex and sexuality to younger audiences.
Aside from her YouTube and Instagram persona, she also sells thrift store finds on her online store - bestdressed. Most of it is currently sold out, but her style speaks for itself, and here’s to hoping more items are rolled out soon!
